A tragic incident in West Bengal has drawn attention after a man named Sadanand Pal, who was injured in a bike accident died after being turned away from several hospitals. The family of the deceased claims that the ongoing doctors' strike played a key role in the delay in receiving medical care, ultimately leading to his death.
Sadanand Pal, 63, was hit by a bike on August 18 in the Nalikul Cinematala area of Haripal police station, causing severe head injuries. According to a video posted on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) X (formerly Twitter) handle, Pal was initially admitted to Haripal Rural Hospital and then transferred to Chunchura Sadar Hospital. Despite being taken to Kalyani, Pal's family claims he could not be admitted to any hospital due to the strike.
The family then rushed him to Calcutta Medical College but alleged that they were denied admission there as well due to a lack of doctors. Soumen Pal, the son of Sadanand, stated that after this ordeal, they took his father to Bengal Neuro Hospital in Barasat, where he underwent surgery and was in the ICU for 11 days. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on August 29, with medical expenses reaching around three lakh rupees.
The incident has sparked outrage, with the family blaming the ongoing doctors' strike for the delay in treatment that led to Sadanand Pal’s death.
